Nose Job’s Top Six Reasons

Not for nothing is the nose job the second most frequently asked for – and completed – procedure in cosmetic plastic surgery worldwide.

Being the center of the face, an oddly shaped, twisted or too large nose not only calls attention to itself, but makes the  person’s eyes look less attractive to onlookers. However, a pleasing, natural nose fits in with the rest of the face after cosmetic rhinoplasty.

Here are the top six reasons people opt for rhinoplasty:

  • Breathing Woes. Chief task for the nose is passing the air you breathe on to the lungs. But that chore is often interrupted by conditions inside the nose like a deviated septum, resulting in snoring, infections and more.

More good news! Cosmetic surgery can also be done at the same time to correct internal nasal woes.

  • A broken Nose. After car wrecks, sporting mishaps and other nasal blows, men  often let a broken nose heal in the broken position. So the nose usually looks twisted or misshapen. Breathing also suffers. If you think your nose may be broken, see a facial plastic surgeon with at least a decade of rhinoplasty experience.

  • That deviated septum mentioned above and other blockages in the breathing passage, if left untreated, can cause continuing infections.
  • Father time. As we get older, the nasal shape changes, with the nose moving down, the tip drooping and becoming more bulb-like. The nose can look larger, especially if other changes to the face –like sagging facial tissues and under eye bags – are present. Surgically bringing up the nasal tip takes off some years, providing a more youthful, pleasing profile.
  • Just looking better. Many rhinoplasty candidates say they have gone to incredible lengths to hide a large or misshapen nose. One office manager:
  1. Darkened the lighting in her office
  2. Moved her desk to the rear wall
  3. Grew her hair much longer
  4. Starting wear a baseball cap at work.
  5. But after a rhinoplasty, she became more social, brightened up that office and ditched the baseball cap.
  • College-bound teens often have rhinoplasty after high school for more self-confidence. Ditto college grads who are – hopefully – headed into the world of work.
